The big holdup in Republican opposition is that both John Boehner and Mitch McConnell refused to put up the good fight. They refused to use all the resources at their disposal to fight Obama. Because of that they emboldened the President. And with each new controlling Executive Order the pair played dead. Then they claimed because of the Senate filibuster rule and the veto power of the President it wasn’t worth passing anything that was doomed from the start. But now as we enter the 2016 election the Republicans have no track record to point to. They have zero accomplishments and in the process they have alienated a huge voting bloc of their own party, nevermind a whole host of Independents.
If the Republicans are not careful a Third Party will arise not to compete with them but to replace them and they will go the way of the Whigs years ago. And history will once again repeat itself.
The answer to the question is, of course, McConnell needs to resign too. Did he not out and out lie to Ted Cruz who had the gumption to call him on it? And the replacements – they need to be solid rock Conservatives not just clones of their predecessors.
