Why The Democrats Cannot Grow The Economy

Once again it needs to be reiterated that the Left operates under faulty economic assumptions. And the biggest of these is that whatever the rich get, they get by taking away what would have gone to the poor. So it has become their mission, in the name of “Social Justice,” to redistribute America’s wealth to make fair what is inherently unfair.

Nothing could be further from the truth. When somebody like Bill Gates further developed computer technology and created the behemoth Microsoft empire, he was not taking anything away from anybody, he was creating something new. He was adding to the wealth of the United States. And the greater the aggregate wealth of a nation the more each slice of the pie is.

The Democrat Left operates on the assumption that the pie – the US economy or GDP – remains the same. It never grows or contracts not matter what anybody does. If that were the case than redistributive economics would have a point. But that’s precisely not the point. Economies can grow and contract. Right now, under Obama’s policies, the economy is contracting. But when the economy grows it does not grow on the backs of the poor or make the poor, poorer. New wealth is created, creating new businesses or business expansion, creating more and better jobs.

and if you are receiving one billionth of the pie then a piece of that proportion out of the bigger pie is more money in your pocket than a piece out of the smaller pie. But redistributing the pie without increasing it – in fact decreasing it – is like taking water from the deep side of the lake to dump it into the shallow side of the lake. Does the lake get any larger? And it is only when the lake – the pie, the economy, the GDP – gets larger that America becomes different from Mexico, North Korea or Uganda to name just a few examples. It is precisely because the United States has the biggest pie in the world that it is the wealthiest nation in the world and its poor are often ten times better off than the poor in Third World countries.

But Obama and the Democrats would like to take us backwards, to reduce us to the lowest common denominator, so that we might be equal to Third World nations. Both the economics and the ideology is faulty and…un-American.
